Godfather movie analysis
The movie is produced in 1972, USA, and is directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
The movie begins with Connies wedding, she’s the daughter of a famous and powerful mafia boss. Her family is originally from Italy, but they live in America and that is were the movie takes place. Her father is Don Corleone, also known as “Godfather”. To be a godfather or a godmother to a child is a sacred thing to be for the catholics. The godfather is supposed to help and take care of his godchildren, and that’s why people want their child to have a powerful and rich godfather like Don Corleone.
Almost every person in the movie is presented at the wedding, since the movie is about the family. There’s Michael, son to Don, Michael doesn’t want to be like his family. He wants to have a normal life, and he has no intention to work in the family business. Michael is in the army, and he brings his beautiful girlfriend to the wedding. He tells her about his family, but she is convinced that he isn’t like them. Michaels girlfriend is very much in love with Michael, and she doesn’t see his faults and shortcomings.
There’s Michaels brothers, Freddo and Sonny. Freddo is kind of stupid and impulsive, and he doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the family. Don loves his children, but he knows that either of them are cut for being the next godfather.
Tom is like a brother to the sons, he’s adopted, he is the family lawyer and Consigliere ( the one who gives advice to the godfather).
Tom is really smart, and he would be a perfect godfather because he knows how everything work and he is not controlled by his feelings and emotions.
Luca Brazi is a big and scary looking man, he works for the godfather. His job mostly consists of beating and killing people and scare them.
Johnny Fontane is godson to Don, he’s good looking and a very famous singer. Johnny is spoiled and he always gets what he wants, because his godfather always help him out.
The leading figures are the Godfather and Michael.
The Godfather is played by Marlon Brando, he’s about 60 years old. Don doesn’t have a lot of hair. Don has a very big jaw, and he talks very special. He is very calm and relaxed, and he always think twice. Don believes in helping others and then reclaim the favor back, and he doesn’t start fights for nothing.
Michael is played by Al Pacino, and he’s about 25 years old.
He’s quite good looking and charming, he has black hair and brown eyes.
Michael doesn’t want to be like his father, but he’s very much alike him.
He is smart and he’s not controlled by his emotions, he can be cold as ice.
Michael is the perfect godfather, but there’s one problem, he doesn’t want to be one. Both Michael and Don, as well as the other men in the movie, always wear suits. They are always clean and proper.
My favorite character is Michael, he’s very interesting and complex. Later on in the movie his father is shot by another mafia family, and the oldest brother Sonny takes over. Sonny is not fit for the job, he’s to emotional and his driven by revenging his father. Sonny also gets killed by one by the other mafia family, and Michael becomes the new Godfather. In this part of the movie Michael is forced to change his life, and become what he tried to avoid. It’s his sense of responsibility and honor that makes him take his fathers place. It’s quite ironic to speak about honor when it comes to leading a mafia family.
Michael transforms from a young man who just wants to live a normal life with a ordinary job and family to a man who is leading a criminal business, ready to kill to protect his interests. He also change on a personal level, from a tender young man in love to a cold and secretive husband who is keeping his wife at a distance.
The surrounding is sometimes happy and joyful, they eat and laugh together.
And in the next scene they can order someone to get killed. They can’t trust anyone, not even their own family. Michael has to deal with a lot of unpleasant situations, like killing his brother in law even though he knows it will break his sisters heart.
In the end of the movie, Michael lies to his wife about the murder. It’s like concrete point in the movie were he lies and betray his wife’s trust. He looks in to her eyes and he lies without hesitating, and she knows it. I think the end of the movie is good, you want to know what is going to happen next. I feel like his wife is seeing him for the last time, and when he close the door it’s like he’s shutting her out of his life.
The music is really nice, and it varies from sad to romantic, so it follow the story of the movie well.
The beginning of the movie is in some way similar to the end, it begins with the Don sitting in his office and discussing business and it’s the same thing in the end, except Michael is now the Godfather. I think the beginning is quite exciting and you want to see more.
If you want to see a exciting and interesting movie, and a movie were you have to think for your self, I would totally recommend it. I guess some people would consider the film to be boring and slow, and maybe a bit old. But if you don’t require a super fast action movie, and like mafia movies I think you would like it.
The movie is about many different things, like love, revenge, anger and hate.
I think the age 15- death is suitable, the movie is an old classic and classics never gets out of fashion.
